چکیده

Infectious diseases have contributed immensely to the rate of death globally in past decades due increased resistance synthetic drugs. Hence, there is an urgent need find a lasting solution problem drug resistance, through emergence alternative medicine. One such plant with biologically – active components against variety Petiveria alliacea. It has been used reduce inflammations and pains also eliminate bacteria, fungi, candida viruses. The potency oils obtained from leaves, stems roots this (Soxhlet Cold extraction methods) were subjected test certain micro-organisms, as: Staphylococcus aureus, Bacillus subtilis, Escherichia coli, as well anti-fungi on Rhizopus sp., Aspergillus niger. cold hexane leaf extract ethanol most effective at limiting growth Salmonella typhi sp. respectively MIC value 3.125 μg/mL MBC 6.25 μg/mL. extracts using Soxhlet technique coli. Likewise, niger minimum fungicidal concentration (MFC) antioxidant property was determined by 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl radical scavenging assay ascorbic acid reference standard.

The lachrymatory principle of Petiveria alliacea.

The lachrymatory principle of Petiveria alliacea has been isolated from a fresh homogenate of the root. Its structure and geometric configuration have been determined as (Z)-thiobenzaldehyde S-oxide by means of NMR, IR, MALDI-MS and by comparison with an authentic compound obtained by synthesis. This unique compound represents only the third naturally occurring sulfine (thiocarbonyl S-oxide) to...

Petiveria alliacea extracts uses multiple mechanisms to inhibit growth of human and mouse tumoral cells

BACKGROUND There is ethnopharmacological evidence that Petiveria alliacea can have antitumor activity; however, the mechanism of its cytotoxic activity is not well understood. We assessed multiple in vitro biological activities of an ethyl acetate soluble plant fraction over several tumor cell lines. METHODS Tumor cell lines were evaluated using the following tests: trypan blue exclusion test...

Cysteine sulfoxide derivatives in Petiveria alliacea.

Two diastereomers of S-benzyl-L-cysteine sulfoxide have been isolated from fresh roots of Petiveria alliacea. Their structures and absolute configurations have been determined by NMR, MALDI-HRMS, IR and CD spectroscopy and confirmed by comparison with authentic compounds. Both the R(S) and S(S) diastereomers of the sulfoxide are present in all parts of the plant (root, stem, and leaves) with th...
